Qualifying for JEE Main is a big achievement and students who successfully compete shall be eligible for admission to NITs, IIITs, and some state government-funded engineering colleges.

However, if your dream is to secure admission in any of the IIT’s or Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, you will have to crack the JEE advanced successfully. Therefore, if, you have been wondering how to prepare for the IIT Entrance examination, especially JEE advance here is a last minute preparation guide.

Design a Time Table for the next one Month

There is roughly 3 week of time left between the declaration of the JEE Main result & JEE Advanced.  The key to success is maximum optimization of the duration of time. Prepare a clear-cut timetable and try to stick to it to the best of your ability. Here are few tips that you should keep in mind when creating the timetable

• Start your day early – Since the duration between JEE Main & JEE Advanced is very short, sleeping at odd hours every day will rein havoc on your body clock on the day of the examination. Since, the examination will be conducted in two parts and will be conducted throughout the day you can’t be feeling exhausted and tired.

• Divide Time Carefully – You may have covered nearly 90% of the JEE advanced syllabus while preparing for JEE Main. However, do not be too complacent. Make sure that you divide your time equally between all 3 disciples – Math, Physics & Chemistry.

• Focus More on Revision – Do not pick up any new topic and focus more on the revision of already covered chapters and sections.

• Practice Previous Years Paper – If you are wondering how to prepare for the IIT entrance examination successfully, the practice of religiously solving practice or previous years question is very important. This will give you an insight into the kind of questions you will be asked in the main examination.

• Get Adequate Amount of Sleep – While you may be focused on reinforcement, solving practice paper and completing every aspect of the syllabus, do not ignore sleep. You need a minimum of 6 hours of sleep daily. Anything less than that will make you feel tired and sluggish.

Get a Thorough Understanding of the Question Pattern

While JEE Main is always conducted under a set pattern, the same cannot be said about JEE Advanced. Since its inception, the exam pattern and a total number of questions, etc. have undergone changes. Below is some generic information about the JEE Advanced question pattern.

• The exam is divided into Paper I & Paper II.  The duration of both papers is 3 hours with a gap of 2 hours between them.

• This year JEE advanced shall be conducted by IIT Madras. So, far the exam pattern has not been revealed by the Institute as yet. But, as per the last year’s examination pattern, Paper I & Paper II constituted of 54 questions, each paper carrying a total of 186 marks.

• Besides multiple choice questions, JEE Advanced also carry different question patterns like – Single Choice MCQs, Multiple Correct MCQs, Matrix Match Questions, and Integer Answer Type Question.

Stick to the NCERT Syllabus

Although JEE Advanced is perceived to be difficult than JEE Main, the syllabus of both examinations are similar. Therefore, stick to the NCERT syllabus and thoroughly revise and solve practice tests papers to the maximum.

Having stated that, you would have to adopt a slightly different approach when it comes to solving the JEE advanced question. The questions may be more application based, and it may slightly vary from the JEE Main. Negative marking is also part of JEE Advanced, and it can adversely affect your score, therefore, read each question carefully before you mark the final answer.
